"That's my Joseph," Rose McKay said on Friday as she gazed at the portrait of her slain husband, Sgt. 1st Class Joseph McKay of Queens. There was barely a dry eye in the 104th Field Artillery armory in Jamaica when McKay's portrait was unveiled.
"The black and white represents the spirit that the soldier now is," Taylor said. "He is no longer flesh and bone, and I keep the color in his eyes because that's the window to the soul, and I was able to show that this man was a gentle giant."
